Portugal has always had a healthy techno scene of its own and right now it is as rude a health as ever. With his new EP ‘City Drift’, Perfo conjures up a dream-state blend of synth-washed techno that feels surreal yet rooted to the floor. Pads come and go as the rhythms race on with opener ‘Tan Lines’ a nice psychedelic trip to start. The title cut is more about the drums, which are pronounced and priced with raw hits. ‘Friday, Locked’ bleeps and squeaks and creaks under bright string synths that add some uneasy drama. ‘No Place Like You’ is another collision of different textures and inspirations with glitchy claps, mangled wiring and deep drums all making for a busy and arresting sound that is unlike much else.
