Berlin resident Feral (Alessandro Barchitta) proposes ‘Memory Folds Inward’, beginning his Non Series studies with a fiver of fearsome tracks: ‘Vertigo’, ‘Sinner’, ‘Pinger’, and ‘Nulling’, and culminator ‘Unplace’.
Each tune unfolds with reverb-diffuse drive and antinodal drift, with fedback space keeping ghostly pace: they don’t call it phantom power for no reason! Best of the bunch is ‘Pinger’, which immediately follows ‘Sinner’ with the sincere hedonism of a newly released confessor; the track makes great use of torsional, lasery impacts embedded in its mixdown, like impulses amplified through a railway tunnel or giant slinky.
