The Golden Mother – Harmony 22

Berlin-based duo Yazzus and DJ Tool, aka The Evil B-Side Twins, bring volatile chemistry to The Golden Mother on their debut for Prague label Harmony. The opener lurches from humid hand-drum patterns to metallic bass jolts as vocals flicker through like radio static. ‘Interstellar Reflection 101’ then pushes further into weightless terrain, its kicks cutting through a haze of arpeggiated synths and sub-pressure pulses. On the flip-side, Kohra and Monophonik drag the title track into murky Goa-lit depths whilst Alfred Czital and Ayu’s remix goes widescreen – trance-edged yet still skewed. It’s a record that moves between light and abrasion, rhythm and release: a reminder of how far the new school of Berlin club music can stretch the idea of propulsion without losing its grip.
