The mighty Zenker Brothers single-handedly redirected the techno underground when they made breakbeats cool again. The powerhouse label Ilian Tape has continued to tweak and update that template with music from friends but also the bros themselves, as we have here. ‘Headliner’ kick off with bulky beats and skittish percussion that skates over the top. ‘Studmission’ is more minimal but still weighty, dark and dusty in mood. ‘Unite & Conquer’ sinks into smoggy subterranean worlds with dubby drums rumbling under alien synths and ‘Lion’s Mane’ shuts down with a militant, back-straightening drum line that is built for forward motion.
