Partial Records revive a deep, righteous roots artefact with this 7″ pairing from Eek A Mouse and Cultural Warriors. ‘Wicked (Alt. Vocal Mix)’ revisits the Mouse’s 1978 cut ‘No Wicked’, aka ‘Wicked Shall Not Reign’, in a newly unearthed 2010 recut produced by the Swiss sound system unit Cultural Warriors and mixed by Russ D of The Disciples. The A-side retains Eek A Mouse’s unmistakable singjay phrasing, gliding over a taut, echo-heavy rhythm with just, system-minded lyrics – «no righteous cannot reign in the hands of the Babylonians…» – the flip, ‘No Wicked – Raw Dubplate’, strips the mix down to pure spatial hypnosis. In a run of just 350 copies, it’s the first time either version has reached vinyl, making this a sought-after link between late-70s Kingston minimalism and modern European dub engineering.
