For more than three decades, Detroit’s Robert Hood has worked with an intensity that leaves little room for embellishment. His best records hinge on the idea that subtraction can create its own pressure, and this new four-tracker for M-Plant carries that belief forward. What stands out is the clarity of someone who understands exactly how little a track needs to move a room. ‘Insurrection’ opens with sharp, disciplined force, its strings sweeping through the kick pattern like a warning. ‘Black Ops’ tightens the frame further with a dry, echoing pulse. On the flip, ‘Soul Protector’ locks into a narrow groove that never slips, and ‘Warfare’ builds tension through small, controlled shifts. It’s Hood working with the tools that have always served him – unblinking and entirely sure of purpose.
