Athenian techno kraken Axel Karakasis queues up four direct hitters on the ‘Stave Off’, his tradition-jettisoning latest 12″ for Remain and another entry in an imprint-stretching catalogue over the likes of MB Elektronics, Kombination Research and Primate since the early zeros. Long exempted for his clipped, aerodynamic phrasing and no-nonsense drum engineering, Karakasis sits in that lineage of Greek producers who drove the harder European sounds back home; he also ran the Omega Audio shop in the capital, a quiet hub for DJs hunting for high-tack, tooly toughness. The music stand is toppled, as we stop sight-reading and start jacking to the likes of ‘Stressed Out’ and ‘Fearful Stone’.
