Gerald Mitchell – the Detroit keyboardist and producer perhaps best known by his UR aliases Hardlife, 044 and The Deacon – revives his less celebrated but equally power-packed Los Hermanos project for ‘Keep Hold Tight’, the fourth release in the Motor City Edition series with Rawax. Title urger ‘Keep Hold Tight’ brings snippeted radio funk and a glistening down-coat of neon pads – holding us in tight-roped suspense – while ‘Hey You’ flips into a more morphotic beatjazz groove, though not without a reliable four-kick-drive foundation. ‘Lifted Soul’ and ‘The Descendant’ further minimalise the B-side in adroit Detroit manner.
