For Rhythm Control Barcelona’s tenth outing, Not A Headliner presents Jose for a top debut. The Spanish artist reconnects with his house roots while nodding to mid-90s UK influences on each cut here and fuses tech house, acid lines and breakbeat crunch. ‘Declarado En Rebeldia’ is big and buoyant with malleable acid lines and fuzzy percussion. ‘Conciliacion Previa’ is deeper, darker house with eerie and unresolved leads. ‘Preguntas Capciosas’ has heavy grooves, shimmering synths and warm percussion, conjuring that classic feeling without ever feeling retro. The offbeat textures and Jose’s deft sense of pacing make this one the standout that it is.
