Portugal-born Lewis Fautzi makes no-frills techno with blazing texture and primal energy. His debut on Hayes demonstrates that, but also how he has a refined style that means the four tracks are both cerebral and dancefloor-ready. ‘Zona Neutra’ has intricate percussion with restrained melodic elements that make for real tension without ever feeling overworked. ‘Reflexo Invers’ is more broken and lump, the knackered loops and rusty textures evoke a decayed warehouse space. ‘Zero Absoluto’ is riddled with static. Loopy kicks and charged up synth injects hint at cosmic worlds and ‘50.0 Hz’ steals the show with a lithe, meticulous, skeletal and minimal rhythm that’s couched in a post-apocalyptic landscape.
