Various Artists 002 – Alt Dub 05

Federsen’s Alt/Dub imprint has grown into a small but distinctive corner of the West Coast dub-techno scene and this second Artist Series release shows how widely that influence now stretches. Forward Memory sets the tone with ‘Scholz’s Star’. It’s a drifting pulse shaped by hand-played percussion and soft, hovering synths. Thomas + James bring a deeper physicality on ‘Chosen Colour’ where rolling low-end pushes through a mist of glowing pads. Gradient shifts the focus on the flip that leans into lighter, glassier stabs on ‘Vibes Realm’. Beppu closes with ‘Conversions’, a restless mesh of hiss, echo and broken rhythms that feels like it’s unspooling into open space. A calm, detailed snapshot of dub techno’s outer edges.
