Shall Not Fade looks to Naarm/Melbourne-based Pugilist for a quartet of blissed-out, dubwise house that moves between warm, corrective grooves and the up-close-and-personal feels of late-night grooves. The title track hums with hypnotic pads and infectious rhythms, while ‘Bona Fide’, featuring Mystic State, layers swinging jazz drums with reflective vocal samples. ‘Anomaly’ is a forward-charging stepper, sub pulses and trumpet echoes weaving through woozy melodies. Closer ‘Marigold’ finds Pugilist drift into soulful jungle territory with scuffed percussion and fleeting guitar licks, creating a nostalgic tug in the undulating soundscape. A great balance of heady atmospheres and club utility.
