Struggle No Mo – Going Bananas 04
Gen-Y produce los cuatro cortes que forman la cuarta referencia del sello Going Bananas.
To date, Gen Y has decided to stay in the shadows, frequently covering his face in photos and choosing to offer up EPs with little or no information. Given that he’s thus far mostly released on Netherlands-based labels (including Clone and Going Bananas, an imprint he returns to here), it’s a fair bet that he’s a young Dutch producer. Either way, the four tracks on offer here differ from some of the more electro-fired sounds he’s previously explored. Instead, it’s sample rich old-school house nostalgia all the way, with our publicity-shy hero variously doffing a cap to ‘Can You Feel It’ period Larry Heard (the excellent ‘Dreamer of Peace’), colourful garage-house/breakbeat house fusion (‘U Got Me’), mid-tempo, breakbeat-driven deep house dreaminess (‘G Life’), and more sub-heavy, break-rich headiness (the woozy ‘Do U Rite’).
