Four techno rawhides from Chicago raconteur Robert Hood, scraped from old tape but still sounding fresh from the tanning rack. As 2020 heard him rescrape his minimal techno roots – before starting off on a year-breaking note with a resurrection of his classic label M-Plant – the new ‘Psychic’ reissue hears him reassert his wiles, harking back to days of old, as ‘Pole Position’ proves itself again the subtle piano weapon it always was, with sticky acid licks standing in for snares. And the title track is scratchier, with an offbeat hat standing out with shearing intensity, like the automated scraping of a metal file against unsuspecting ears.
