Exos’s return to Mutual Rytm marks a considered point in a long, quietly influential career. The Icelandic producer, active for more than two decades, delivers his fifth full-length and his first album for SHDW’s label, drawing together memory, place and craft into a measured survey of his sound. It reads less as a reset than a moment of reflection. The opening track, ‘D17’, reaches back to a decades-old collaboration with his father, its analogue drift setting a rather reflective tone. ‘Sweet Dreams’ follows with a cool, linear groove, whilst ‘Hinn Vidforli’ and ‘State Of Mind (Thomsen 98 Mix)’ fold dub textures and late-90s Reykjavik club history into the mix. Elsewhere, ‘101 After Dark’ leans into broken rhythms and low-end pressure, and ‘Freefall’, featuring Amelia Rodriguez, allows a rare emotional openness. It closes with ‘Paradise Lost’, a restrained ending to a record shaped by time and place.
