UK producer Sub Basics takes the mantle for emerging Spanish label Proper Balance, and he keeps things decidedly slow and poised with tempos hovering around 115bpm. ‘Rolling Thunder (with Gauze)’ opens up and it’s a fine title for a cut buried deep in dub caverns with quiet drama in the smeared pads up top. ‘Hemisphere’ has more defined lines that rise and fall beneath shards of melody and echoing hits. It’s curious and inquisitive, while ‘Bounce’ is a more pressurised bass and dubstep fusion with a warped low end vying for your attention. ‘Axis’ is another muscular post-dubstep sound and, like all these cuts, was written between 2017 and 2018, not that you could tell, because they’re right on today’s money.
