Irish producer DeFeKT is back on Winthorpe after five years away and he wastes no time in reasserting his command of electro’s darker edges. Blending electro and techno long the way, he moves through four distinct but cohesive cuts. ‘It’s Down’ opens with a low-slung, bass-heavy groove, before ‘Your Body Will Learn’ channels classic Detroit energy with crisp machine funk. On the flip, ‘Overcome’ leans into a more tense, menacing pulse, while ‘Always’ closes things out with widescreen synths. A fine, no-nonsense return built with the kind of craft that defines true underground electro.
