Under his Parallel 9 alias, Steve Rachmad has long interrogated the deeper urges under-heating the deep techno sound, in marked contrast to the tougher Eurotechno pulse often associated with his early work. Rachmad has been quoted in imagining Parallel 9 as a space for reduction, a better being found in steady, not overhot sound-stimulus: ‘Dominus’ is the title track cotched on a cushioned, pulled-focus bed of dub, decibels sifting from back to figure ground but never diffuse. ‘Ventris’ and ‘Vestras’ pivot into simpler squints, reverse strings and held minor seconds recalling the later works of one Mr G, as the mood of embering reminiscence lingers. originally released in 2005 and scarce ever since, count yourself lucky for the chance to own a reissue.
