Low End Activist honours grime’s MC tradition on ‘Fake Idols,’ where his fractured, urban-decaying production meets well with select vocal forces of the scene – Jammz and Tia Talks – though it’s not the first time he’s done this. Emerging from the Sneaker Social Club orbit, LEA first gained attention through collaborations with MCs before veering into more abstract, concept-led instrumental work. Here, despite generous wordplays traded between Tia and Jammz each on their own dedicated side (and with instrumentals each), this Activist does well to cast their bars not just as lyrics but as mise-en-sound, ambiguating the crude individual and their urban situation; hollow influences and scene poseurs are called out and castigated, as beats beat mutate, spray and interlock beneath.
