Neolithic Neon – Sneaker Social Club LP 14

Following his recent ambient album Liminal Tides on Quiet Details last month, Appleblim returns to Sneaker Social for a more beaty exploration. Still keeping it dreamy and deep in places, and highly energetic and unpredictable in other places, the Bristolian-in-Berlin runs us through our paces, gently rising in intensity as the album progresses. This dynamic range can be felt best between the gorgeous cosmic opening track ‘Moondrift’ (where the cascading guitar and synth plucks delicately fall around spacious beats) and ‘Thunderstorm’ (where a bouncy acid beat gets turned inside out by scattered Amens and dubby synths). A similar contrast can also be found between the sunrise charmer ‘Sarsens Embrace’ and the venomous, squelchy techno title track ‘Neolithic Neon’. We could continue but you’ve probably pressed play and copped it by now. An Appleblim a day keeps the blues away!
