Acidulant is Malta-based Neil Hales, but his take on electro is very much not of this world, or possible any known planet. He comes from the storytelling and celestial electro tradition, where jerking, physical rhythms propel future synths that explore the unknown. ‘Systematically Connected’ is buoyed by a soft but wriggling acid lead, ‘T Zerohour’ is more tightly coiled and stripped back to rhythmic element then torn up with razor sharp stabs, while ‘Salvation Of The Acid Kingdom’ is more thoughtful and introverted. Add in the dreamscapes of ‘Dance For The Thriving Soul’ and deeper moods of ‘Intimate Exposure’ and you have a far-reaching and excellent outing.
