Drifted Off EP – Arts 58

Karol Mozgawa is Deas, a Polish artist who brings visceral designs to techno. His latest maximalism missive comes on the Arts label and is destined to destroy everything in its wake. ‘Drifted Off’ begins with cantering kick drums and rusted synths that strafe through the mix and fire every synapse. ‘Out The Way’ is just as chunky and muscular, this time with classic hi-hat ringlets that ripple outwards as the bass anchors everything. ‘No Excuse’ keeps up the pressure but allows much more room for the booming kick to set the tone. There’s a subtle swing to it as the tension is ramped up through shimmering melodies and ‘Direction’ is the final fantastically to-the-point panel beater for when all you want is sheer rhythm.
