Belgian Moroccan producer Zaatar shows she has great control no matter what she’s cooking up – techno, house and dub-inflected passages all contour her cohesive soundworld. And his new EP on Flight Mode delivers five tracks that prove the point. ‘Coming Up This Way’ is deftly controlled with rasping synths setting the vibe over flat kicks that keep you locked as tension builds. ‘Temporary Suspension’ hurries along with a naughty, hot-stepping groom and scary synths that light up the mix. ‘The Smell The Touch’ goes for a more warbling, acid-late mental psychosis and ‘Falling Inside’ and ‘Small Head DJ’ tap into big, stark, electroclash-adjacent sounds for strobe lit release.
