DJ Balu, real name Nicolas van Dedem, hails from Utrecht, lives in London, and cooks up techno that references the late 90s minimalism of Naples. ‘Gravity Force’ is icy and edgy with uneasy stabs that never resolve and keep you pleasingly unsatisfied. ‘Spectral’ dials into more focused rhythmic intensity with groaning sounds peeling off the drums and ‘Unknown Source’ is a deeper sound that invites you to get lost inside the booming kicks, which rattle all the loose fixtures of the warehouse they seem to be racing through.
