Scatter EP – Livity 75

Terrain – joint axis of Forest Drive West and Voytek – touch down on Livity Sound, affirming their shared Bristol frame, everlasting life found in the city. Both artists stepped into the ring from different corners, FDW commencing his style on a halftime-d&b-techno crossover before coiling back to more conventional BPMs; Voytek, to contrast, on finer-grain sequencing, from the start. The name Terrain feels conquesting and triumphant, perhaps acknowledging the euphoria of their collaboration, like a back-to-back DJ takeover: ‘Barossa Dub’ dips into half-time swing with low-end drag and dub smear, ‘Nica’ keeping tension wound with clipped hits and a stalking gait. ‘Scatter’ and ‘Hive’ come last, both fractured steppers treads, chipping off kick and break, hit by hit.
