Russia’s Raw Takes arrives on All Nice Records and does exactly what the name promises across some seriously unfiltered club music with no fancy preamble. ‘House of Phreaks ‘ opens as a Chicago house sledgehammer with the heavyweight bassline landing first and dusty hi-hats skating all over it. ‘Last Figure’ tightens the screw with dark chords that roam and are full of menace, before ‘One For Gehm’ closes the A-side as a tribute to acid pioneer Andreas Gehm. The flip offers off-kilter warmth via ‘Piano Jam’ before ‘AECD’ goes full 303. This is proto-The Warehouse-era Chicago with the same original voltage.
