Ritzi Lee returned to Ben Sims’ Symbolism with a powerful snapshot of his evolving techno language. His Momentum album was an exploration of techno’s many forms, reflecting over two decades of output and a continued connection with Sims’ influential labels and now two of its standouts get reworked. But first is an original, ‘Impact’, which is a frosty storm of scurrying synths and clanking industrial over funky drums. ‘Stationary’ is all bleeps and subliminal bass for freaking out the back room. Then comes ‘S-Waves’ (Surgeon remix), which is caustic and textural, a stomping, upright groove that burrows into body and brain and ‘Friction’ (Troy remix) balances functional dancefloor force with detailed, immersive production.
