World Cup (reissue) – Skylax Classic 18

Kiko’s «World Cup» remains one of the defining tech-house cuts of the late 90s. Led by the signature hook, this hypnotic, rolling groove perfectly captured the era’s transition from hard-edged techno toward something funkier and sleeker. Originally released in 1998, now reissued, the track’s instantly recognisable sound is still enormous today. The tribal percussion, looping tension and a subtly euphoric aura helped make it a favorite across European clubs. The 2006 and 2013 revisits expanded the track with the changing sounds of the scene. «Tainted Life» deserves equal praise. Somewhat overshadowed by the success of «World Cup», a cult following still helped raise the appreciation as a great B-Side option. With the coming of the World Cup once again in 2026, it’s obviously fitting this track sees a reissue. He shoots, he scores – all over again.
