Selected Recordings: 2004-2006 – Altered Circuits 22

Noting the recent renaissance in interest in 2000s electroclash, Belgian label Altered Circuits has decided to shine a light on one of the lesser-celebrated electroclash-adjacent acts of the period, largely forgotten French duo Sweet Light. This fine retrospective four-tracker showcases some of the Gallic twosome’s most fearsome club-ready cuts from the period – bona-fide peak-time throb jobs that fix the restless and relentless pulse of synthesiser arpeggios, acid-style electronics and fizzing motifs to unfussy and club-focused house beats. There’s plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the mind-mangling, trance-inducing ‘Mecaniques Remontees’ and the new beat-goes-acid-house darkness of ‘Too Shy’, to the raw and trippy ‘Abusator’ and the bleep-and-chug excellence of ‘Noir Comme Le Beat’.
