Calling Mr Speaker – Rick 02
Freddie McGregor, Naram (con dos cortes) y Hard Rubbish Horns comparten este VA para la segunda referencia del sello Rick Records.
The second release on the new label from Riddim Yard host Rick Howe reworks Tristan Palma’s Linval Thompson-produced 1982 classic ‘Face The Struggle’ into something with a different vibe. Naram builds a new riddim in authentic 80s Channel One rub-a-dub style that was mixed to tape in Whanganui, Aotearoa, while reggae legend Freddie McGregor lends his unmistakable voice, recorded at Big Ship studios in Kingston. Full horns from Hard Rubbish Horns bring a bold, brassy energy and the flip has a pair of dub versions built to consume you when cranked up loud on a proper sound system. Overall, it makes for a faithful, well-crafted tribute that connects Jamaica’s golden era with today’s reggae.
