Control – Ruff Kutz 04

UK bass imploder Pugilist put out Sub Basics’ ‘Reflections’ on his own Temple Of Sound label back in 2019, and this record now returns the favour on Pugilist’s Ruff Kutz imprint. Like the laggard, hazy, post-broken beat stumbles of Punch Drunk fare, ’20-25′ takes a swipe for deep sub-140 meditator of choice here, its title referring to the stems being first bounced in 2020 and only finished by the duo five years later. ‘Strings’ and ‘Control’ take a more gradual techno path, and by the point of ‘Depth Charge’ we’re not sure we’ll ever make it out of the wilderness.
