HAYES is one of the powerhouse labels out of Portugal that is driving the local scene forward but also bringing plenty of spotlight to its hometown. The seventh EP is a bumper double pack from a selection of artists right at the bleeding edge of the current sound. Temudo & Kwartz kick off with a great bit of sonic sculpting that evokes industry, factories and endless automation in a post-human world. The tempo remains steady on Pierce’s ‘Halftime’ but his layering of double hits and spangled synths brings an eerie tension. Brusca taps into more anxious sound worlds with the nervy synth derails of ‘Above, Below’ while Casual Treatment locks you in with scuttling sound effects, big oversized hi-hats and a sordid, striped back groove on ‘Natural Aptitude.’
