Antic Drive EP – 9Finity 05

Miles Borghese made his bow earlier in the year via a fine contribution to Nervous Records third ‘Nervous Lab’ EP. Here, the German-born, Austria-based artist delivers his debut EP proper for Secretsundaze’s recently launched (and proudly «no-nonsense») 9FInity imprint. What’s on offer is certainly distinctive, blending tech-house tropes with raw sounds and nods to the futurism of Detroit. Opener ‘Do You Ever Fantasize’ is dark, rolling and lightly acid-flecked, offering hypnotism and hallucinatory sonics in equal measure, while ‘Sustain’ is a moodier and more bass-heavy tech-house workout. Borghese switches things a little on ‘Antic Drive’, where Tabla patterns, robotic vocals and sustained minor key chords catch the ear, before going deeper, dreamier and more intergalactic on the gorgeous ‘Mateo Does’.
