Southern Lights hits number 20 with a new EP from Nothing, who is the founder of Knotzept Records and a sound engineer and live performer who blurs the lines between the real and the imagined. His sound is a portal to a dimension where time has no meaning. ‘Zyphora’ is a snaking, stripped-back back deep techno meander that takes you into a damp subterranean world and ‘Nyltara’ is a percolating, rubbery rhythm that is minimal but moving. ‘Yitharv’ brings dubby kicks and spacious architecture to the fore with fluid synths and aquatic droplets, then ‘Velumbra’ shuts down with a darker energy seeping out of the menacing bass. It’s evocative, image-rich material for high definition sound systems.
