.French producer KUSS makes his Figure debut with a gripping six-tracker of heavy, scuffed-up concrete techno funk. Next to the sort of hypnotic rhythms this label always deals in, the artist’s tactile, metallic textures and tension-building feature in equal measure. The EP thrives in techno’s darker, more introspective corners and two collaborations with Clotur – ‘I Want You’ and ‘Drifting Phase’ bridge KUSS’s clinical percussion with Clotur’s cinematic atmosphere, resulting in a sound that’s surgically clean yet sonically massive. Built for late-night, deep-club hours, X54 is an uncompromising addition to the Figure world.
