Buried – Sudd Wax 15

Unique Reason’s first full release on Sudd WAX comes with the sort of frayed and dusty edges that make it all the more real. ‘Get Down’ and ‘The Basic’ sit somewhere between deep house and raw techno, with the MPC giving everything that slightly battered and raw character the sampler is known for. ‘B-Groove’ keeps things loose and funky and never sounding too polished. Then Shinedoe takes the remix and pushes it towards a more gritty and grinding house slash techno sound, opening the groove up while keeping the rough edges intact. There’s a clear Detroit influence throughout, but always with plenty of the artist’s own perspective.
