The label’s latest recruit, Jani Ho, comes from Melbourne, which feels appropriately unlikely ‘Last Run’ is a full-on arms-flailing and drums-flaming opener to immediately make sure you’re locked in, then ‘Hotday’ twists and turns on convoluted rhythms with melodies that seem to have broken free from the mainframe and drums that want to punish. ‘Blue Mechanics’ rides on surging drum patterns while percussion and synths are in a constant dialogue up top and vying for your attention. Detroit techno’s spiritual lineage remains intact, even 16,000 kilometres from where it started.
