Second time around for one of Definitive Recordings’ most popular cuts of the early 1990s – a Marshall Jefferson acapella-sampling number from label co-founder Richie Hawtin under the lesser-known Robotman alias. None of the 1992 original mixes are present, but we do get his much-loved 1993 ‘Acid House’ mix as Plastikman – a deliciously raw, mind-mangling throb-job in which Jefferson’s vocals rise above tough, Windy City style machine drums, moody wind effects and relentless waves of TB-303 acid trickery. The first lady of Detroit techno, DJ Minx, offers a fresh rework on the flip, peppering a deep, weighty bassline and chunky house drums with nostalgic stabs, sweat-soaked drum machine fills and cut-up vocal snippets.
