Toobris’s new outing on HAYES, the cult Portuguese label that has always led the national techno scene from the front, says «mirrored phrases and responsive gestures» are the inspiration for this «tight study in structure and momentum.» It’s lithe, elastic techno with a mix of off-grid energy and more streamlined and linear grooves. ‘Tomorrow Is Gone’ is a real favourite – it’s just so simple, effective, stripped back but primed and ready to go. ‘Chromatic’ has a similar impact but is decorated with more frosty synth textures and percussive hits. ‘Pleasure Void’ closes with the feeling that the groove is going to catch you up and swallow you whole.
