‘Flow Tide’ is a subtle recalibration for Dutch pair Artefakt. Across five tracks, the newly solo Nick Lapien keeps the project’s sense of depth and space, but there’s a more fluid, instinctive quality to the production. The title track and ‘Undertow’ drift through shadowy electronics and submerged rhythms, while ‘Blackwater’ brings a sharper edge without breaking the mood. On the flip, ‘Tarpon’ and ‘Ray’ push further into hypnotic techno and let repetition take the lead. It’s a subtle record, but never static, with detail emerging gradually from the murk. For a first solo Artefakt release, Lapien handles the transition with remarkable restraint.
