Forgotten Heroes – Backspin 06

Backspin Records becomes dark techno lord Regal for his label debut, and in return, the Berghain favourite serves up four tracks centred on rolling techno with steady kick patterns and tightly programmed percussion. ‘Forgotten Heroes’ layers low-frequency bass with looping synth phrases that shift through gradual filtering. ‘Concentrate’ is stripped of most melody and instead locks into drum interplay and short tonal hits. ‘Forte’ introduces brighter synth lines and picks up the pace for the peak time when the strobes are flashing and ‘Soft Killer’ is a brushed metal dub techno punisher. ‘Wild Magic’ is more light and loopy as it floats above the floor with eerie sequences designed for a different emotional reaction.
