Fuga VII – Token 139
La serie Fuga del sello Token regresa para su séptima entrega, como siempre, con ocho temarracos de varios artistas en doble vinilo.
Ghent’s own Token Records’ (est 2017) come back with a new techno V/A – a truly enjoyable, surgical, if not rather apathetic ride. Rene Wise opens with ‘Rough Rider’ before Sandrien and STIPP ease in a more fluid sequence on ‘Corrie’; the former doing the heavy conceptual lifting with a creepy science-experiment screed by a lab-coated voice – «do not attempt to control or rationalise… let it flow… you will be returning soon enough» – and the latter a deeper-set, tuned-percussive, post-tribal skudge. Otherwise, Lindsey Herbert goes full time machine sound design, her retro bleep swirls recalling a kind of 80s telenovela sci-fi, and by the time Porteix closes, we’re more than purged of our inihibitions with ‘Ad Libitum’: motion sustained, open-endedness preserved, total resolution withheld.
