Rooted in the ever more fertile Lisbon scene but also pulling from far wider coordinates, Scam Dust aka label head Shcuro and Lux Fragil resident Tiago, debut for Paraiso is stripped back and fiercely focused. ‘Gastric Pulse’ kicks things off with corroded acid lines riding a tight, industrial-leaning groove that nods to the working cities of Sheffield and the Midwest. ‘Enzyme Breaks’ keeps the pressure on by introducing murky atmospheres and subtle drum shifts that will always get reactions in the club. Toms dominate ‘Pepsin Drive’, which has a playful low-end movement with crisp clap patterns and soulful stabs locked into repetition. On remix duties, Doc Sleep and Elias FS twist the tunes into a hypnotic, dubwise closer laced with jazz inflexions and glitchy detail.
