OK EG’s debut on their own GEKO imprint is the sort of head-turning first outing you want when starting your own project. This is artful techno that blurs the edges of reality in the way it warps synths and melts time into syrupy, liquid deep techno. Lauren Squire and Matthew Wilson explore hypnotic loops, shifting textures and taut rhythms perfectly here, from the drunken imbalance of ‘Spiral’ to the rising tripinnes of ‘Surge’. ‘Fracture’ is more tightly coiled with a bumping rhythm and ‘Monument Stone’ layers in some widescreen cosmic mystery with a more organic, ritualistic percussive drive. There’s a clarity to the production that gives each element space to breathe while building tension and release with aplomb.
