I’m Afraid I Can’t Do That EP – Kazerne 28

Oliver Rosemann is back with more of his steely, monochromatic techno jams, this time on home label Mord’s sub-imprint Kazerne. He paints pictures of a fairly bleak post-human world with this music – it sounds as if it captures machines left to run of their own accord. ‘I Could See Your Lips Move’ is foreboding and heavy even though the tempo isn’t high. ‘Everything Is Under Control’ sounds like that might only just be true, given the way the kicks are trying to break free and synths are rusting and decay before your ears. ‘Completely Operational’ is the sort of tense techno that makes you feel on edge just because of how little room there is between the loops and ‘Among The Stars’ then stumbles about the grid like a drunk. Meticulously well-designed stuff.
