In Place Of Language – De:tuned 56
808 State vs Humanoid protagonizan lo nuevo del sello De:tuned con cuatro pelotazos originales.
It may have taken the best part of three and a half decades, but we’ve finally been treated to a collaborative release from UK techno, acid house and rave originals 808 State and Humanoid/Future Sound of London – or at least Graham Massey and Brian Duggans – and it’s as magical as you’d expect. Opener ‘Optica’ is bass-heavy, trippy and decidedly psychedelic, offering nods to formative bleep and UK acid house as well as Duggans work as part of FSOL. They opt for a more melodious and intoxicating – but no less hallucinatory – sound on ‘Vasco’, before unleashing waves of wild TB-303 lines, jacking drums and doom-laden synths on ‘Raid’. To round things off, Massey reaches for his alto sax (yes, the instrument he played on ‘Pacific’) on the IDM-influenced ambient dub delight ‘Ruby Chan’.
