Inferno – Token 140

Belgian producer Kr!z has been part of the Token machinery for long enough to understand that this sound works best when it feels slightly merciless. ‘Inferno’ is nasty in the best way, all whipping drums and distorted synths folding into each other like overheated factory equipment. ‘Gridlock’ somehow grows even more abrasive, locking itself to a single grinding chord and worrying away at it for six minutes straight. There’s something slightly funny about how stubborn it is. ‘Level Zero’ taps into that classic Token hypnosis, where tiny filter movements suddenly feel enormous at the wrong hour of the night. Then ‘The Great Forgetting’ arrives with softer pads and a flicker of release, though even here Kr!z keeps one hand wrapped firmly around the sense of unease.
