After a wild two-track tearout of an LP teaser, ‘Skeng / Watermark’, Cardiff producer Quartz presents the next phase in his pre-release drumroll ahead of a forthcoming album, Interloper. Next, the five-track, 12″, EP selectors version of the full-length record is released, and presents a completely different menu to the initial teaser, though of course within the same style: ‘See My Scar’, ‘Ganzfeld’, ‘One Last Word’ and more. Long having stuck to the shadows of the drum & bass scene before being hand-picked by Goldie to star as his next Metalheadz album-releasee, it’s clear why he was chosen: despite the «no flash or frills» ethos underlying his attitude to the scene, Quartz’s is a havoc-raising sound, full of endlessly shapeshifting rage design and restive hellscapery.
