Johnson’s Theme – Dekmantel UFO 21

Dekmantel’s UFO stage is one of the best in techno and has been for a while. This label offshoot aims to bottle up the sounds you could expect to hear in the Amsterdam woods each summer and Rene Wise is next with a controlled exploration of modern techno precision. Andrew Shobeiri’s alias emerged in 2017 with a focus on functional minimalism and tightly wound rhythmic design that carries through here. ‘Johnson’s Theme’ opens with restrained melodic fragments and subtle sequence work before ‘Granite Skin’ deepens into low-end pressure and dense percussion. ‘Flow’ introduces lighter, vapour-like textures and reduced rhythmic weight, while ‘Kanga’ pushes forward with clipped bleeps. A controlled but compelling EP ripe for club deployment.
