Northern France’s techno-leaning Fhase 87 has collided dub, industrial and both Berlin and Chicago influences in his work. Now he continues his ambitious Lemegeton series a 12″ that brings dark energy into a precise electronic form. Inspired by the 17th-century grimoire (which is a textbook of magic), each track is named after a demon, and this release conjures Barbas, Eligos, Phenex and Belial with eerie synth lines and taut percussion. The A-side alternates between hypnotic menace on ‘Barbas’ and propulsive rhythm on ‘Eligos’, while the B-side dives deeper into shadowy textures with ‘Phenex’ and a grinding, claustrophobic thong on ‘Belial’.
